Recently a question was raised if there is a more affordable alternative to Benefit’s High Beam. With a little research we found that the e.l.f. Shimmering Essentials Facial Whip is a perfect dupe.

Benefit’s High Beam only comes in one color – however, there is also a Moon Beam, but then you’re spending $48 for the two products. However, e.l.f. offers several different colors of its Shimmering Facial Whip. While the name is horrible, the product is awesome. Lilac Petal is the High Beam dupe, and it’s hard to tell a difference between the two once it’s been applied.

There are some differences :
- e.l.f.’s product is thicker and needs to be blended a lot more. You should squeeze out the smallest amount possible, and that should be more than enough for cheeks and eyebrow highlights. The product remains creamy and gives a nice glow all day. High Beam takes a little more product, and has a more watery consistency.
- While testing the product on the back of our hand we noticed that High Beam washed off easily while the Shimmering Facial Whip stayed. We weren’t trying to wash either off, but the staying power was great!
- e.l.f.’s Facial Whip also has a more pleasant smell. High Beam doesn’t really have a smell, unless you get really, really close to the bottle.
- High Beam looks like it has tiny glittery shimmer in it, and e.l.f.’s whip is more of an all-over even glow.

In this photo I tried to use the same amount of product of each, but I think I may have actually used more High Beam, although it doesn’t look like it.
So who is the winner here? Definitely the e.l.f. Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal. We found it at our local Target for $1.

Glimmer & Shimmer 
I recently bought Facial Whip in both Lilac Petal and Spotlight. Spotlight is more of a shimmery white and I prefer it for eyebrow highlights over Lilac petal which is better for my cheeks. I’ve been comparing e.l.f. to high beam I’m very pleased with the results of the Facial Whip. I see that e.l.f. is very cheap and I was wondering if you could recommend any other products of theirs?
Anna, I really like the Translucent Matifying Powder. I’ve also heard really good things about their Contouring Blush & Bronzer and Studio HD Powder. I don’t know if you’ve watched Emily from Beauty Broadcast (http://www.beautybroadcast.net/), but she really loves e.l.f. products, especially the blushes and lip glosses.
ELF has amazing products and a lot of them! I love the dollar and studio line. I’m not big into mineral makeup. Shadows are alright, but I don’t wear mineral foundation. Studio line brushes are so good! After reading this post I went and put on spotlight facial whip and it looks really awesome. It surely will look great this summer. I’m really looking forward to these facial whips. I have all the colors, I believe. I only have opened the spotlight one so far. I think the persimmon one will look great just like the lilac petal. The citus looks nice, too. And the toasted looks like a great contouring color for me. Should be fun to experiment with!
