Love for Lisa Eldridge

29 Feb

Many of the makeup gurus we watch on YouTube are just ladies who have taught themselves tricks over the years and have chose to share them. However, you will find the occasional professional makeup artist, and our favorite is Lisa Eldridge.

Lisa has so many helpful and informative videos. All of her looks are different – you’re not going to see her doing the same smokey eye or technique on every video like you see with some people. And we’re super jealous of how gorgeous she looks when she’s only wearing mascara.

She also has a great website where she posts photos of her work, and even has a place where you can suggest a look for her to do a tutorial!

Today we’re going to pick out a few of our favorite videos of Lisa’s to share with you!

One Lipstick …..Many Different Ways to Wear itIn this video, Lisa shows you how to wear a lipstick like a stain, and several other great techniques.

Beautifying Party/Prom Make Up (Photo Friendly) – Lisa shows you how to do a super chic party look.

Chic & Simple 5 Minute Make-Up Look – Here Lisa shows you how to do a super quick yet polished look. She even uses her signature lip liner.

Tried It Tuesday – Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminious Eyeshadow

28 Feb

This week’s Tried It Tuesday is brought to you by Red.

Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in #84 Epatant ($36,

I have had my eyes on these luminous eyeshadows for quite a while. I liked all of the shades, but after seeing Rachel Bilson’s Shoemint ad here I was set on Epatant. It’s a lovely taupe shade with a hint of green to it. I happen to love how this looks on my hazel eyes.

This eyeshadow is described as a gel. I’m not sure if that is the right definition. I would call it almost a mousse. It is very light and spongy. This lightness makes it nice for using it as a nice wash. It is incredibly easy to intensify the shade as well. It blends so easily. I have been wearing this shadow almost daily. I love the luminous quality to this shadow. The price tag is a little steep for one eyeshadow, but you do get a lot of product and a little goes a long long way.

I give Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminious Eyeshadow 4 out of 5 sparkles.

2012 Oscars Best Dressed Picks

27 Feb

We admit we haven’t seen most of the movies that were nominated for Academy Awards. But we’re still interested in what the ladies are wearing and how they did their hair and makeup. Here are our favorite looks from the 2012 Oscars.

Natalie Portman – Natalie always looks gorgeous. You don’t normally think of polka dots on the red carpet, but the cut and fit of this makes it work.

Tina Fey – Can we get this dress in every color, please? Thanks.

Emma Stone – The color, cut, and bow are all just adorable on Emma. She just looks so chic!

Valentine’s Pink

14 Feb

Happy Valentine’s Day, you guys. Instead of Tried It Tuesday here are some of our all-time favorite pink items.

Red – MAC’s Naked Lunch ($15, – This shadow is a light shimmery pink and it is GORGEOUS. It pairs well with so many different shades. No worries, it’s a perfect shade alone as well. This happens to be one of Selena Gomez’s favorites. She keeps hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat and wears it over and over.

PantsClinique Strawberry Fudge ($19.50, – I don’t wear pink eyeshadow too often, but when I do, it’s usually this one from the Clinique Strawberry Fudge duo. The pink is a bright pastel pink with a gold shimmer in it. It’s not overpoweringly pink, and I love the hint of gold.

Red – NARS Blush in Amour ($28, – This is a beautiful, bright peachy pink. It’s perfect in the summer, but can really punch up the winter as well. This happens to be one of Lauren Conrad’s favorites. Besides the beautiful color this is why I own this blush.

Pants – NARS Blush in Angelika ($28, – When I want a pink cheek, this is what I go to. I love the cotton candy pink of this blush, and it has tiny silver sparkles in it, too. It’s great for adding a pop of color to the apples of your cheeks.

Red – Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum ($7.50, – This is a super pretty plumy rose color and it gives your lips a nice flush. I like to use a light wash of this color over my lips.

Pants Urban Decay Lip Junkie in Crush ($19, – I love bright lip colors, and this gloss is great for a hint of brightness. It’s a glossy fuchsia that works well alone, or adds a little pizazz over top of a hot pink lip stain.

Red – Essie Nail Polish in Fun in the Gondola ($8, – I like pink polish, but it’s not one that I typically gravitate toward when painting my nails. When I am in the mood for a pink polish I like Fun in the Gondola. Its a nice mauve pink and looks nice on my ghostly complexion.

Pants – Essie Nail Polish in A Cut Above ($8, – I don’t really do pink nails. I’m more of a purple/green/blue/gray kinda girl. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pink glitter polish over top of purple polish. The pink and purple pair reminds me of Jem, one of my favorite cartoons from when I was little. I want to be truly outrageous too!

Foxy Browns

8 Feb

In the latest edition of People Style Watch Magazine, they say one of the trends for this spring is the brown smoky eye.

Amanda Seyfried wears it well.

So here are a few of our favorite palettes to pull off the brown smoky eye.

Urban Decay Naked Palette ($50, – I mean, obvi. There’s a great range of dark and medium browns to give you that perfect smoky eye. Try Toasted on the lid, Hustle in your crease and use Sin to highlight your brow bone. And you can even line your eyes with Hustle and Darkhorse, but make sure it smudge it on the top and bottom lid.

Too Faced Natural Eye Collection ($36, – This collection is great because it gives you three looks you don’t have to think about. You’ve got a daytime, more natural brown smoky eye on the top, a slightly darker one in the middle, and then a night time look on the bottom. And you can, of course, mix and match to create your favorite look.

Dior ‘5 Couleurs – New Look Eye Shadow Palette in Grege ($59, – This little palette really packs a punch with its shades of browns. You can go light with your smoky eye for a daytime look or take it up a notch for nighttime.

Tell us do you like a smoky brown eye? What palettes or single shadows do you like to use?

Tried It Tuesday – Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color

7 Feb

This week’s Tried It Tuesday is brought to you by Pants.

Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Apocalypse ($18, Sephora exclusive)

Sephora describes this color as “deep plum,” and I love me a deep plum lip color. I saw several blogs swatch and review this color, and when I got a chance to go to Sephora, I made sure to check it out. I tested it on the back of my hand and kept staring at it, and finally decided, “I’m doin’ it! I’m getting it!”

This photo doesn’t do the color any justice. You can apply it straight to your lips for a dark, dramatic look. However, I like to apply the pencil to my finger tips, then pat the color onto my lips for a less dramatic look. It gives a nice hint of plum, and is suitable for day time.

When applied as it’s intended, it does give a glossy look and isn’t drying. But when I pat it on, it looks slightly matte. I like to pair it with a gloss on top, specifically Lancome Juicy Tube Jelly in Magic Spell (“a sheer pinky-rose with opalescent flecks)”.

I’ve been wearing this around the house a lot, mostly because I haven’t really left my house since I bought it. But I’m very excited to wear it when I go out!

The one downside is that you have to sharpen this, which means that I’ll lose some of the product during the process. I really think they should make these retractable like the Tarte LipSurgence pencils.

I give Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Apocalypse 4 out of 5 sparkles.

Poll Results – How many foundations do you use?

6 Feb

Well it’s looking like that most of you just have one foundation in your arsenal.  There is definitely nothing wrong with that. If you have one fabulous foundation that you love love love, then so be it!

Now that I’ve started thinking about it, I realized that I have several different foundations. I have my reasons though!

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation ($42, – Don’t let the price deter you. I’ve been able to purchase this foundation at a discounted price at All Cosmetics Wholesale. The reason why I have this foundation is because it has a stronger covering power than my others. I like it for special occasions and night outs when I know I’m going to need a little extra coverage and when I know I’ll be having my picture taken. I also like it because it doesn’t have SPF in it. Did you know that a foundation with SPF isn’t the best to wear for photographs? The zinc oxide is the culprit and can cause that paled out face look in photographs.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup ($45, – I recently started using this foundation. I have always been looking for that Holy Grail every day foundation and think I’ve finally found it. I need a few things from an every day foundation. I want it to make my skin look flawless, not dry me out, and somehow still look very natural. This does all of the above. It is so light, you really can’t even tell that you are wearing makeup. This foundation is water based and therefore is very hydrating. It also has SPF in it which is great to help protect my skin and keep it looking young. This one comes with a pretty hefty price tag as well, but I think it’s worth every penny. It will last for quite a while as a little goes a long way.

Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 ($16, – I think this tinted moisturizer has been discontinued because it is on clearance and limited quantities are available. This is what I used everyday. I later switched and was only using it during the summer months. It does have shimmer to it and gives you a pretty healthy glow. It’s very light, but now as I have gotten a little bit older I think the coverage is too sheer for me. I definitely felt the need for something with a little more coverage.

MAC Select SPF Foundation ($27, – Before I found the above mentioned Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, I was using this as my every day foundation. I liked it for the most part. It had nice coverage. I did notice during the winter months that it dried my skin out a little bit on my cheeks and around my mouth. That’s why I was still looking for other foundations.

I used to only have one foundation, and it was my beloved Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinte. But because it has been discontinued (sad face), I’ve been accumulating new foundations lately. I didn’t realize until I gathered them all up. I was also on the search for a full coverage foundation for special occasions. I’ll talk about the ones that I use.

Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinte ($38.50, – Loved this so much. It was the first foundation product I used, and I never felt the need to try anything else for everyday use. I have combination skin, and my forehead can look oily, but somehow flakey at the same time. I never had that issue with this product. Plus, with the SPF, I never got sunburned, and my nose used to burn all the time. The coverage was light, and looked natural. It felt like I wasn’t wearing anything on my face. This is what I’m looking for.

tarte Amazonian Clay Full-Coverage Foundation SPF15 with brush! ($34.56, – Here’s the thing about this one – I really like it. I like it a lot. It has good coverage, and it doesn’t make me look oily or flakey. It lasts for hours… but I bought the wrong color. I thought since I was pale as a ghost, that I would be fair, but it turns out that I’m light. I think if I wear it and make sure to blend into my neck and put on some bronzer, it might be fine. However, I keep meaning to do this and let Red see it and give me her opinion. I don’t want to look crazy. I would have exchanged it, but with QVC you have to pay more for shipping, so I just kept it. The brush is AMAZING, and it costs $32 alone, so it was totally worth it.

Elizabeth Arden Intervene Makeup SPF 15 ($36, – My mom and I both got color matched for Elizabeth Arden foundations when we were Christmas shopping. They gave us little samples of our colors to try out. I fell in love. This foundation is the perfect coverage, goes on smooth and keeps me looking matte. It also looks great all day, I don’t notice it breaking down or oxidizing. It doesn’t feel heavy at all. This will be my special occasion foundation.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup ($45, – Like Red, I also recently got this foundation. What I love is that it’s water-based, like the Lancome Tinted moisturizer. It’s a thin consistency, but gives nice coverage – my skin, but better. It’s light and leaves my skin feeling soft. I am experiencing some forehead flakes, but I’ve been trying new products lately that have broke me out as well, so I’m working on that. This will probably take Lancome’s place and become my everyday foundation product.

Tell us, what are your go to foundations?
