Poll Results – Will you wear green makeup for St. Patty’s Day

12 Mar

We asked our lovely readers if they would wear green makeup for St. Patty’s Day and the answer is a big fat no. Really? Way to crush our souls you guys. Way. To. Crush. Our. Souls.

Perhaps you need some inspiration? Here are some of our favorite green makeup tutorials that should help you out.

Lisa Eldridge – Green Smoke Glamourous Party Eyes:

Pixiwoo – Olive/Gold Eyeshadow tutorial:

And remember – you don’t have to go ALL OUT like a crazy person and be covered in green. Wear some neutral shadows and add a pop of color with some green liner under the bottom lashes. Or maybe paint your accents nails green, and do the rest in an another color. We’re just looking out for you so you won’t be pinched!

It’s not easy bein’ green

8 Mar

St. Patty’s day is coming up and we already have our green makeup picked out. We hope you do too. In case you don’t, here are our picks for some green fun.

Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in #84 Epatant ($36,

Just in case bright shadows aren’t your thing, this is an amazing greenish taupe shade. You can sparkle and shimmer all day and/or night.

Urban Decay Glide on Eye Pencil in Graffiti ($19,

You can have some real fun with a bright green eye pencil. This particular one has great pigmentation.

Lancome Color Fever Gloss – Green Petal ($26,

This gloss may look scary, but it doesn’t look green on your lips. It just adds some pretty green glitter than you can wear alone or on top of another lip product.

Already have some green makeup, but don’t know how to wear it? No worries! Here are some tutorials:

A bright look: Sour Skittles by xsparkage

A standard look: Lucky Green by MakeupByTiffanyD

A smokey/glittery look:  Smokey Glittery Green Tutorial by AlbaMayo

A dramatic look: Anything Goes Liquid Liner by Lisa Eldridge

Tried It Tuesday – Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminious Eyeshadow

28 Feb

This week’s Tried It Tuesday is brought to you by Red.

Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in #84 Epatant ($36,

I have had my eyes on these luminous eyeshadows for quite a while. I liked all of the shades, but after seeing Rachel Bilson’s Shoemint ad here I was set on Epatant. It’s a lovely taupe shade with a hint of green to it. I happen to love how this looks on my hazel eyes.

This eyeshadow is described as a gel. I’m not sure if that is the right definition. I would call it almost a mousse. It is very light and spongy. This lightness makes it nice for using it as a nice wash. It is incredibly easy to intensify the shade as well. It blends so easily. I have been wearing this shadow almost daily. I love the luminous quality to this shadow. The price tag is a little steep for one eyeshadow, but you do get a lot of product and a little goes a long long way.

I give Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminious Eyeshadow 4 out of 5 sparkles.

Valentine’s Pink

14 Feb

Happy Valentine’s Day, you guys. Instead of Tried It Tuesday here are some of our all-time favorite pink items.

Red – MAC’s Naked Lunch ($15, – This shadow is a light shimmery pink and it is GORGEOUS. It pairs well with so many different shades. No worries, it’s a perfect shade alone as well. This happens to be one of Selena Gomez’s favorites. She keeps hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat and wears it over and over.

PantsClinique Strawberry Fudge ($19.50, – I don’t wear pink eyeshadow too often, but when I do, it’s usually this one from the Clinique Strawberry Fudge duo. The pink is a bright pastel pink with a gold shimmer in it. It’s not overpoweringly pink, and I love the hint of gold.

Red – NARS Blush in Amour ($28, – This is a beautiful, bright peachy pink. It’s perfect in the summer, but can really punch up the winter as well. This happens to be one of Lauren Conrad’s favorites. Besides the beautiful color this is why I own this blush.

Pants – NARS Blush in Angelika ($28, – When I want a pink cheek, this is what I go to. I love the cotton candy pink of this blush, and it has tiny silver sparkles in it, too. It’s great for adding a pop of color to the apples of your cheeks.

Red – Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum ($7.50, – This is a super pretty plumy rose color and it gives your lips a nice flush. I like to use a light wash of this color over my lips.

Pants Urban Decay Lip Junkie in Crush ($19, – I love bright lip colors, and this gloss is great for a hint of brightness. It’s a glossy fuchsia that works well alone, or adds a little pizazz over top of a hot pink lip stain.

Red – Essie Nail Polish in Fun in the Gondola ($8, – I like pink polish, but it’s not one that I typically gravitate toward when painting my nails. When I am in the mood for a pink polish I like Fun in the Gondola. Its a nice mauve pink and looks nice on my ghostly complexion.

Pants – Essie Nail Polish in A Cut Above ($8, – I don’t really do pink nails. I’m more of a purple/green/blue/gray kinda girl. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pink glitter polish over top of purple polish. The pink and purple pair reminds me of Jem, one of my favorite cartoons from when I was little. I want to be truly outrageous too!

Poll Results – How many foundations do you use?

6 Feb

Well it’s looking like that most of you just have one foundation in your arsenal.  There is definitely nothing wrong with that. If you have one fabulous foundation that you love love love, then so be it!

Now that I’ve started thinking about it, I realized that I have several different foundations. I have my reasons though!

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation ($42, – Don’t let the price deter you. I’ve been able to purchase this foundation at a discounted price at All Cosmetics Wholesale. The reason why I have this foundation is because it has a stronger covering power than my others. I like it for special occasions and night outs when I know I’m going to need a little extra coverage and when I know I’ll be having my picture taken. I also like it because it doesn’t have SPF in it. Did you know that a foundation with SPF isn’t the best to wear for photographs? The zinc oxide is the culprit and can cause that paled out face look in photographs.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup ($45, – I recently started using this foundation. I have always been looking for that Holy Grail every day foundation and think I’ve finally found it. I need a few things from an every day foundation. I want it to make my skin look flawless, not dry me out, and somehow still look very natural. This does all of the above. It is so light, you really can’t even tell that you are wearing makeup. This foundation is water based and therefore is very hydrating. It also has SPF in it which is great to help protect my skin and keep it looking young. This one comes with a pretty hefty price tag as well, but I think it’s worth every penny. It will last for quite a while as a little goes a long way.

Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 ($16, – I think this tinted moisturizer has been discontinued because it is on clearance and limited quantities are available. This is what I used everyday. I later switched and was only using it during the summer months. It does have shimmer to it and gives you a pretty healthy glow. It’s very light, but now as I have gotten a little bit older I think the coverage is too sheer for me. I definitely felt the need for something with a little more coverage.

MAC Select SPF Foundation ($27, – Before I found the above mentioned Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, I was using this as my every day foundation. I liked it for the most part. It had nice coverage. I did notice during the winter months that it dried my skin out a little bit on my cheeks and around my mouth. That’s why I was still looking for other foundations.

I used to only have one foundation, and it was my beloved Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinte. But because it has been discontinued (sad face), I’ve been accumulating new foundations lately. I didn’t realize until I gathered them all up. I was also on the search for a full coverage foundation for special occasions. I’ll talk about the ones that I use.

Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinte ($38.50, – Loved this so much. It was the first foundation product I used, and I never felt the need to try anything else for everyday use. I have combination skin, and my forehead can look oily, but somehow flakey at the same time. I never had that issue with this product. Plus, with the SPF, I never got sunburned, and my nose used to burn all the time. The coverage was light, and looked natural. It felt like I wasn’t wearing anything on my face. This is what I’m looking for.

tarte Amazonian Clay Full-Coverage Foundation SPF15 with brush! ($34.56, – Here’s the thing about this one – I really like it. I like it a lot. It has good coverage, and it doesn’t make me look oily or flakey. It lasts for hours… but I bought the wrong color. I thought since I was pale as a ghost, that I would be fair, but it turns out that I’m light. I think if I wear it and make sure to blend into my neck and put on some bronzer, it might be fine. However, I keep meaning to do this and let Red see it and give me her opinion. I don’t want to look crazy. I would have exchanged it, but with QVC you have to pay more for shipping, so I just kept it. The brush is AMAZING, and it costs $32 alone, so it was totally worth it.

Elizabeth Arden Intervene Makeup SPF 15 ($36, – My mom and I both got color matched for Elizabeth Arden foundations when we were Christmas shopping. They gave us little samples of our colors to try out. I fell in love. This foundation is the perfect coverage, goes on smooth and keeps me looking matte. It also looks great all day, I don’t notice it breaking down or oxidizing. It doesn’t feel heavy at all. This will be my special occasion foundation.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup ($45, – Like Red, I also recently got this foundation. What I love is that it’s water-based, like the Lancome Tinted moisturizer. It’s a thin consistency, but gives nice coverage – my skin, but better. It’s light and leaves my skin feeling soft. I am experiencing some forehead flakes, but I’ve been trying new products lately that have broke me out as well, so I’m working on that. This will probably take Lancome’s place and become my everyday foundation product.

Tell us, what are your go to foundations?

January 2012 Favies

1 Feb

It’s our first favorites post of the new year! Whooo! Whoooo! Whoooooooooooooooooooooo! I hope you’re sitting down, cause this is gonna be mind blowing. Or not. Just sit down so you don’t drop your phone or laptop, or strain your back. We care about our readers.

Boots No7 Line and Define Lip Liner in 20 Nude ($7, – I mentioned this amazing amazing lip pencil in yesterday’s Tried It Tuesday post. I have used this lip pencil most of the month with just a little bit of lip balm over. It’s been absolutely great and I have just loved how it looks.

NARS blush in Desire ($28, – I have this color blush in the Danmari All About Cheeks Palette. I’ve been loving it to help liven some things up this winter. I love the glow that it gives my cheeks.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Tipsy ($25, I feel like I’ve been talking about this blush non-stop lately. I wore it a lot during the summer, and put it to the side when it started getting colder. Then in January, I just couldn’t take it any more. I needed some bright colors to remind me of spring. This coral blush is perfect for that. It makes me happy to see it on my cheeks.

Inglot eyeshadow in Pearl 407 ($5, I’ve been loving my Inglot shadows all month, but this color especially. They are so pigmented and easy to blend. Honestly, if there was an Inlgot store nearby, I would probably only buy their single shadows. You can’t beat $5 for such a great product. I like to wear this color with either brown liner, or with a light purple in the crease. I guess it’s another color that makes me think of spring so I’ll forget how gloomy it’s been. (Although Tuesday was AMAZING! 64 degrees and sunshine in January? I’ll take it!)

What were your January favorites?

Tried It Tuesday – Boots No7 Line and Define Lip Liner

31 Jan

This week’s Tried It Tuesday is brought to you by Red.

Boots No7 Line and Define Lip Liner ($7,

I have been on a YouTube beauty guru watching kick, particularly Lisa Eldridge and Pixiwoo. The No7 lip pencils kept popping up. They always looked amazing so I thought that I better try them out. I knew that Target carried this brand, but for whatever reason I never had the inclination to try any of their products out.

I picked up 20 Nude and Melon. Both gurus used both colors in their videos. Lisa Eldridge actually had a hand in designing the color of 20 Nude. Let me tell you, she is a GENIUS of a lady. 20 Nude is the most perfect color ever. It makes your lips the most impeccable peachy nude shade. Lisa Eldridge mentioned that it works great using the pencil with some lip balm over it. I didn’t think that would ever work on me, but it did. The melon shade is just as great. I love it with a light pink gloss over it. I think it will probably be my go-to shade for the summer.

In the past when using lip pencils I found them to be chalky and drying on my lips. This is SO not the case with the No7 lip pencils. They glide on smoothly and you can’t even tell that anything is on your lips. You can wear anything over these pencils, lipstick, gloss, or just lip balm. They all work. Also with lip pencils, I never found one that I didn’t have to reapply over and over again. This pencil has some really nice staying power.

I will tell you all right now. You absolutely MUST have the 20 Nude lip liner in your arsenal. It’s THE perfect shade. School, work, out on the town, it works for any occasion. It’s effortless to use and that is what makes it so great for me.

I give Boots No7 Line and Define Lip Liner 5 out of 5 sparkles.
