We’re no Joan Rivers, but we like to see what people choose to wear to awards shows. And by people, we mean the ladies. From sparkly dresses to great hair and makeup, it’s fun to see how everyone is styled for the big night.
We decided to pick out our favorite looks from the 2010 Emmys.
If you’re not reading this blog because of Bejohnce, then you need to go to his blog ASAP. For serious. He doesn’t talk about makeup (booo!), but he talks about other fun stuff (Pop culture! Tennis! Apple products!)
The poll results are in and the nail polish colors of choice are nudes. Nude colors have their time and place, perhaps a job interview, a wedding, or if you have a cooking show.
Us Glimmer and Shimmer girls happen to think nude nail colors are BORING. We tend to go for something a little more vibrant. No worries though, we do occasionally wear nude colors so here are our favorites.
Brown eyeshadow is universally flattering. It can make blue and green eyes pop, and dark shadow makes brown eyes look warmer. You can go natural or dramatic with brown, and it’s an easy shade to wear when you can’t decide what other color to wear.
That being said, today we’re going to talk about our favorite browns.
We’ve talked about the Urban Decay Naked Palette before, but we’re talk about it again because it’s AMAZING. And we know, it’s sold out at Urban Decay and Sephora, but Macy’s had it for a split second. From what we can tell, it’s not going to be a limited edition so you just need to be patient, and sign up to be notified when it’s back in stock. Trust us, it’s worth it.
Some of the browns in this palette are exclusives (Sidecar, Buck, Darkhorse and Hustle), but Half Baked, Smog and Toasted can all be purchased alone.
Pants’ thoughts on the Naked Palette: Smog is one of my favorites It’s a shimmery, coppery brown that I’ve gotten lots of compliments on, and really looks nice with my blue eyes.
Red’s thoughts on the Naked Palette:The Naked Palette gives you so many options. You can be as subtle or as dramatic as you want to be. All of the colors work so well together. I have to say that I am a super fan of Sidecar and Darkhorse. I’ve been wearing them together a lot lately.
We have a few red lipstick heros who rock the look not only on special occasions, but everyday with t-shirts and jeans.
Liz Lee, star of MTV’s show “My Life As Liz”
Liz is queen of the nerd herd. The “popular” girls on her school picked on her. But those bleach blondes have nothing on this fiery redhead. Liz proves you can wear a Star Wars t-shirt and still wear red lipstick.
Gwen Stefani of No Doubt/ solo artist/fashion designer extraordinaire
When we think of red lipstick, we automatically think of Gwen Stefani. Whether she’s rocking with the boys or glamming it up solo, Gwen’s makeup is always flawless, and she can pull off red lipstick like a 1920s movie star. Fingers crosses that she’ll expand her perfume line into a makeup line!
Christina Hendricks of Mad Men
OK, we may be slightly biased toward redheads. But they look great in all shades of red lipstick.
