Makeup Goods of the Traveling Pants

30 Jun

Pants is heading out of town this weekend, and she’s got her bags packed. Although she usually packs her makeup in the morning as she uses it, this time she couldn’t risk forgetting a precious item.

Here’s a little look at what’s in her makeup bag!

Pants: I keep my makeup in the left side in the large zipper pocket. It has a clear cover so no worries about leaks! Inside there is:

  • Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinte
  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cottage Cheese
  • MAC Eyebrows in Lingering
  • Tarina Tarantino Fleur de Lash
  • Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Electric
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Black Plum
  • Hard Candy Glamoflague concealor
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden
  • MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Light
  • Benefit High Beam (mini version!)
  • MAC eyeshadow in Jealousy Wakes (Temptalia’s color!!! Best. Green. EVER!)
  • NARS Blush/Bronzer Trio (hidden in the top left – it’s all black)
  • Too Faced Natural Eye Neutral Eye Collection
Then in the middle section, I’ve got my brushes!
  • Tarina Tarantino #12 Powder Brush
  • Tarina Tarantino #74 Smudge Brush
  • Tarina Tarantino #56 Crease Brush
  • Sigma Travel E25 Blending Brush
  • Stila #5 All Over Shadow Brush
  • Bare Escentuals mini kabuki (came free from Sephora with a powder sample – it’s the perfect size for the NARS Albatross highlighter in the trio!)
Whew, that seems like a lot when I write it out. Now let’s get to the other side!
The other side of the zipper flap is empty. It’s pretty flat, so I couldn’t fit much in it.
Most of the stuff in the left side are things I keep in there at all times (except my eyelash curler and kabuki brush). This side is also a little deeper, and is a mesh pocket. Here’s what’s inside:
  • Almay Oil-Free Makeup Eraser Sticks
  • Travel Q-tips!
  • Travel Cotton Rounds
  • Lancome Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover
  • Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets
  • Travel tissues (stolen from Red Roof Inn)
  • Mirror
  • Bobby pins
  • Comb
  • French Vanilla Softlips
  • Too Faced Kabuki Brush
  • Sonia Kashuk eyelash curler

My bag is from Target, and is by Contents. It’s called the Weekender Cosmetic Bag. I got it for Christmas, so this style isn’t around any more, but I found a similar one on Amazon in my favorite colors!

Man… that’s a lot of stuff. I hope my suitcase is within the weight limit.

Firework Fingers

29 Jun

Yesterday, we found some things to help jazz up your eyes for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday. Today, we are finding some things to add a little fireworks display to your fingers and toes.

Essie’s Aruba Blue:

This is a beautiful deep and sassy blue. It will stand out with any red or white that you might pair with it.

Sally Hansen Lacquer Shine Nail Color in Dazzling:

Red nail polish can sometimes be a tricky shade. This shade is flattering on most skin types. It is a gorgeous sparkly red color.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Ay, Ay Captain:

This striped blue could be fun on all your nails, or mixed with some red nails. You could even add stars on the red nails if you’re extra patriotic!

Are you ladies doing fun, festive nails for the fourth?!

Red, white and blue eyes

28 Jun

The fourth of July is almost here. We’re excited for sparklers, cookouts and fireworks. Sometimes it’s fun to dress festively on holidays – a couple years ago Red wore blue, Pants wore Red and our friend E wore white, and we didn’t even plan it, but it was adorbs. Wearing themed makeup is another way to be festive on the fourth.

Here are some fun blue items to help make your eyes light up like the fireworks:

NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Rated R (Sephora, $33):

These are super fun and bright colors to help celebrate the Fourth Of July. The blue is a bright fun pop of color and is accented perfectly by the green.

Stila Sparkle Waterproof Eyeliner in Curacao (Sephora, $22):

This is a gorgeous blue. Go with neutral shadows, and this would be an amazing pop of blue!

CoverGirl Eye Enhancers – Indigo Impact ($2.49, Drugstore.com)

This blue is soooo pretty and pigmented. It could be used as a liner, or in the crease with a more neutral color.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner, Eye Candy Collection – Blue Eye Candy ($10.95, Amazon)

This palette has tons of bright blues to play with! Plus a pink, just for funzies.

Anyone planning to do some July Fourth themed eyes? Eh????

Poll Results – Would you rather have a man or woman help you with makeup?

28 Jun

Friday we asked our readers if they’d rather have a man or woman help them with makeup, and it looks like a whopping 75% say they have no preference.

We heart boys who heart makeup. We just heard today that ice skater Johnny Weir will be the face of MAC’s holiday collection, Glitter and Ice. We’ve been fans of Johnny for a while, and of course we love MAC, so we’re super duper excited about this!

There are also some very talented fellas on YouTube that are quite popular.

Wayne Goss is based out of the UK, and does some to-the-point reviews and tutorials. He’s not bad on the eyes either, right ladies? Eh? Eh? Here’s his tutorial for guyliner.

Koren, of EnKore Makeup, is probably the most popular male beauty guru. He even has his own line of Crown Brushes. A lot of his most popular videos are DIY – depotting eyeshadows, making your own makeup remover and how to clean brushes. Here’s one of his most recent videos on an 40-pan Inglot palette, yay!

Have any male makeup artists who you love?

POLL – Would you rather have a man or woman help you with makeup?

24 Jun

Makeup isn’t just for the ladies. There are male makeup artists everywhere. In fact, NARS and Too Faced were both created by men. However, some women still prefer that a woman do their makeup or give them makeup advice. What do you think?

Tarte True Blood, Bobbi Brown Tortoise and more!

23 Jun

You know how nerds get really excited any time Apple is about to announce something new? That’s the way we feel every time we hear about a new makeup collection.

We’re subscribed to A LOT of makeup companies’ email lists, and while sometimes it can be annoying (looking at you Lancome, with your daily “reminders”), it can also brighten our day when we see new products.

Here are some that we’ve recently heard about that we think our readers might enjoy.

Tarte for True Blood, ($24-$54, Sephora exclusive)

Vampires + Makeup? Please and thank you. Tarte’s palettes are always so pretty and unique looking, and we love the corset look of this one. The palette contains 17 eyeshadows (with themed named like Werewolf, Dusk, Dawn and Immortal), a EmphasEYES Aqua-Gel Eyeliner in black, Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara in black, and a Lifted Natural Eye Primer. The other items in the collection are a Cheek Stain in a sheer, sparkling red and a LipSurgence Natural Lip Tint in a iridescent red.

Bobbi Brown Tortoise, ($22-$60, Nordstrom)

This collection has a Bronze and Sand palette, a brush set, High Shimmer Lip Gloss and a lipstick.

Chanel Illusions D’Ombres, ($29 – $43, Chanel)

This collection consists of super gorgeous shimmering metallic colors. There are plenty of gorgeous palettes, lipsticks, and glosses to choose from!

Tell us, has anything new caught your eye?

Coming Up Roses

22 Jun

Nail art and accent nails seem to be growing more and more popular with each passing day.  We Glimmer Shimmer gals have been eyeing pretty designs, as well as trying our own out. Creating your own nail art is super easy!

Recently, Red watched this video:

How could you not fall in love with the adorable little roses. Red decided to give it a try  as an accent nail.  In the video, they used the Migi Nail Art Pens. You do not have to have these. If you have a red, pink and green nail polish, you can use a toothpick or an unbent bobby pin as your painting tools.  Red used the It’s So Easy Stripe Rite polishes that you can get from Sally’s Beauty Supply. Her base color is Essie’s Lilacism.

We’re obviously obsessed with nails lately. Know any good nail tutorials that you’d like to share?
