The Hunger Games

30 Nov

We love love love love love “The Hunger Games.” Red read the book series over the summer, and told Pants how amazing it was. Pants then read all three books within seven days and is going through a serious withdrawal. (If you have a Kindle, the first ebook is $4.69!) And now we’ve both watched the movie trailer a bazillion times.

We were so excited to find out China Glaze is coming out with a Hunger Games inspired line!

We’re not sure how accurate that photo is, since the first one says “inspired by Prime,” when it should be Prim. Either way, we’re totally excited to see these! They’ll probably be released closer to the movie release date in March 2012.

Red also found some great Hunger Games inspired tutorials.

  • And if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, WATCH IT NOW!

May the odds be ever in your favor.

Giveaway Winner and Tried it Tuesday – Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

29 Nov

Are you all ready to find out who won? We love every single thing in that sparkly bag and can’t wait to give it to one of our lovely readers. Let’s give a big congrats to JMU! Please contact us so we can send you all the pretties.

Now on to our weekly Tried it Tuesday. This week is brought to you by Red.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer ($30, sephora.com) – Recently while purchasing goodies from Sephora, I received a Laura Mercier sample pack. I was so excited to finally get to try this primer. I’ve been on the search for a foundation primer and have yet to try very many.

This primer is very light and has a light scent. Sometimes scented things bother me, but this was barely noticeable. It just glided onto my skin, and I could really tell a difference when putting my foundation on. I felt that it helped the foundation blend better and stay longer. I was very happy with this primer until a few days later I noticed that it was drying out my skin. I was so disappointed that I had to stop using it. Laura Mercier has a hydrating primer that I really want to try since I liked this primer so much minus the drying of my skin.

I give this foundation primer 3 out of 5 sparkles.

Poll results – Will you/did you shop Black Friday sales?

28 Nov

It looks like most of our readers saved their money on Friday – 60% of voters said they didn’t shop on Black Friday at all, while 20% said they shopped online and another 20% said they went out to shop.

Pants braved the stores with her mom:

Mama Pants actually had to work 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving until 9 a.m. on Black Friday, boooo! But I picked her up from work, and we hit the mall. We actually didn’t find much. I didn’t get any Christmas shopping done, but did get a nice birthday present for a friend! By the time we got to the mall, it wasn’t that crazy out. I know there were supposedly hundreds of people waiting outside the mall when some stores opened at midnight, but by 10 a.m., it just seemed like a busy Saturday crowd.

I DID place an Inglot order. Over the weekend, they had everything 15% off and free shipping. I got a 10-pan palette and some peach, brown, purple, blue and green eyeshadows. I’ll definitely post pictures when I get it, but that won’t be for about another month. Womp womp.

I also went into Sephora and didn’t buy anything. Crazy, right? This can only be explained by my extreme exhaustion over the week. I chose to read “The Hunger Games” series instead of sleeping most nights. Totally worth it.

Red checked out some stores with Mr. Red:

We didn’t do the midnight or 5 am shopping. We did, however, head to the mall later in the afternoon. Like Pants I too went into Sephora and didn’t buy a thing. I didn’t buy anything because I wanted to place an order so I could get my birthday gift. We didn’t find much either. It was just fun to get out after being cooped up with family for a day.

Tell us, did you find any good deals on Black Friday?

POLL – Did you shop on Black Friday?

25 Nov

There’s a lot of great online makeup deals this Black Friday that we’re super pumped about (15% off Inglot, what what!?). However, Pants and her mom do the whole going out in the crowds on Black Friday. Not at midnight, or 6 a.m. or anything crazy. Pants has always gone shopping with her family the day after Thanksgiving at a normal hour, like 9 or 10 a.m.

We understand why people don’t want to deal with it – crowded stores, tons of traffic in packed parking lots, screaming children and bitchy customers. People are cray cray and can be a pain.

So are you planning on hitting up the stores, whether it be in town or online? Check out our list of online deals we’ve found here.

Tried it Tuesday – Nars’ Danmari All About Cheeks Palette

22 Nov

This week we wanted to fill you in on Nars’ Danmari All About Cheeks Palette. Both of us Glimmer Shimmer girls could not resist this palette.

Nars’ Danmari All About Cheeks Palette ($65, sephora.com): This palette includes the highlighter Hungry Heart (gold ivory) and the bronzer Casino (dark brown with golden shimmer), along with four blushes: Orgasm (NARS’ most popular color, which is a peachy pink with gold shimmer), Super Orgasm (peachy pink with gold glitter chunks), Desire (BRIGHT matte pink) and Sin (berry with gold shimmer).

Red:

I was drawn to this palette because it has a wide variety of colors as well as a bronzer and highlighter. There were a couple of cheek shades that I use all of the time as well as a couple that I have been wanting to try. My reasoning behind purchasing this palette even though I had two of the blushes already is that it would travel perfectly. Also, purchasing two full size blushes to try out would be almost as much as this palette.

I ended up taking this palette with me for a recent ballet performance that I was in. It packed up nicely. It worked perfectly because I used several of the shades on different people and there was something for everyone. I think my favorite shade in this palette is Sin. It’s a berry with a gold shimmer and it looks gorgeous on many skin tones. I was worried that the bronzer in this palette may be too dark for my ghostly skin. I was very surprised to find out it can be applied with a light hand. It blends extremely well too.

I give this palette 5/5 sparkles.

Pants:

When I spotted this on Sephora’s website, I knew I had to have it. I waited until the Friends & Family Sale, but waited too long and it went out of stock. I stalked this product like a crazy person, and luckily Red hadn’t placed her F&F order yet, and it came back in stock in time for her to order them for us with 20%. Not too shabby.

There’s a reason this keeps selling out – it’s amazeballs. NARS’ blushes are really good quality – velvety and pigmented, and they have great staying power.

Yes, I do already own Orgasm and Super Orgasm, but I’ve been wanting a blush palette, and this is a good deal. A normal NARS blush is 0.16 oz, and each of these in the palette is 0.12 oz. At $27 each, I would have to spend $108 to try the other four colors I didn’t have in this palette.

I love all the colors in this. I do have to use a very light hand with Desire, and I love to pair Hungry Heart on top. Like Red, Sin is probably my favorite – I’ve been wearing it a lot with gold and berry eyeshadows.

I give this palette 5/5 sparkles.
