POLL – Do you go to the makeup counter knowing what you want or looking for suggestions?

29 Jul

Since we live so far away from the makeup wonderlands, we usually have long wish lists when we make the journey to our Mecca. We know what items we want to look at, and we’re ready to swatch them to see if they’re right for us.

However, sometimes we’ll decide, hey I need a gray eyeliner. Crap, what gray eyeliner do I want? For example, today Pants went to Sephora with her mom and was looking for that gray eyeliner. That’s all she wanted, all she needed (despite seeing 800 other things she would have happily taken home). She swatched and swatched and swatched, and finally found the perfect gray!

The Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Triggerfish!

But guess what? That shitz was sold out. So Pants decided to go to Macy’s because she knew they carried some Stila items, but this was a new color and Macy’s didn’t have it. So one of the girls working in the cosmetics section shows Pants about eight different gray eyeliners.

Coming in a close second place was Urban Decay’s 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Revolver. It was a metallic charcoal gray with lots of glitter. It was really pretty, but not really an everyday gray like she was looking for. These liners are similar to Stila’s Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, but with more glitter, but in smaller pieces.

Pants ended up picking up Too Faced’s Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eye Liner in Perfect Storm. It was pretty darn close to the Stila liner, a dark charcoal gray with a hint of sparkle.

ANYWAY, we want to know:

Brand Favorites: NARS

26 Jul

Every so often we do a feature called Brand Favorites where we, obviously, pick out our favorite products from our favorite brands. Today we’re going to talk about NARS.

Pants’ Picks:

NARS Cheek Trio ( $55, narscosmetics.com)

This may be the best thing that’s ever happened to me. OK, maybe that’s a little extreme, but I LOVE this thing. The palette includes blush in the cult favorite shade Orgasm (peachy pink with gold shimmer), highlighter in albatross (sheer white with a gold shimmer) and bronzer in Laguna. Laguna is described as brown with golden shimmer, but I don’t notice any shimmer in it. It’s really a nice bronzer for pale ladies like me and Red. These products blend well and have great staying power.

NARS blush in Angelika ($27, narscosmetics.com)

This is the first NARS blush I purchased. I was looking for a cotton candy pink for the apples of my cheeks, and this was exactly what I wanted. A little goes a long way, so I’m sure it’ll last a while. I love how bright this pink is, and the shimmer in it. It’s described as having “gold flecks,” but I think it looks silver.

Red:

NARS Blush in Orgasm ($27, narscosmetics.com)

I have been using this blush for many moons. It goes with me whenever I travel and I could never imagine not having this blush. It is the absolute most perfect peachy shimmery shade. I love how it looks on me, but also I think it flatters most complexions.

NARS Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight: ($24, narscosmetics.com)

This gloss is such a pretty light pink shade. It’s pretty by itself, but I love to use it to layer over darker color lipsticks. It doesn’t have to be applied over and over which is another great thing about it.

NARS Shimmer Eyeshadow in Voyage: ($23, narscosmetics.com)

This is a lovely tan shadow with a little bit of gold shimmer. It is perfect by itself, or for a neutral smoky eye. It layers so nicely with other shadows. The shimmer is very subtle and pretty.

NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna: ($33, narscosmetics.com)

I have been using this bronzer every day. Pants mentioned it above being perfect for the pale complected. It blends perfectly and adds such a lovely glow to your skin. This has quickly become a product that I cannot live without.

What are your favorite NARS products?

Poll Results – Do you wear more or less makeup when it’s hot as balls outside?

25 Jul

We asked our lovely readers if they wear more or less makeup when it is hot as balls outside. The consensus seems to be that the amount doesn’t seem to change when the weather gets warm. Red feels the same way, while Pants tends to go with less in warm weather.

If you want to keep your makeup looking fresh in this weather, think about using a makeup setting spray. Here are  low-end and high-end options that we’ve tried.

Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray ($29, urbandecay.com)

We’ve both tried this spray, which is good to apply before leaving the house or during the middle of the day to freshen up your makeup. We know that $29 is a little pricey, but Ulta carries a mini version for $9 if you wanna give it a try before committing.

elf Makeup Mist & Spray ($3, Target)

We tried this a couple weeks ago when we did makeup for a friend’s wedding. The spray is a little forceful, and terrified the bridesmaids and bride who weren’t expecting it. But we started doing makeup at 9 a.m., and when we left around 6 p.m., they were still looking great!

Also, don’t forget to use primers! They really do make a difference!

POLL – Do you wear more or less makeup when it’s hot as balls outside?

22 Jul

It’s been hot lately. Like, really hot. Like hot as balls. If you’re like Pants, this heat makes you feel like a sweaty little pink pig. Some ladies say they feel like their makeup melts off in this heat, while others may keep piling on the powder to stay looking matte.

Actually, maybe you’re not sweating, maybe you’re just glowing more than usual. Either way, do you add more or take away some products when it starts to get hot as Jumanji outside?

Summer Blushing

20 Jul

Yesterday we discussed some of our favorite eyeshadow colors for the summer. Today we’ll share our favorite summer blushes.

Red:

Tipsy by Tarte:

I picked this up recently and have been using it so much. It’s such an amazing coral color. Nothing screams summer to me more than a lovely coral.

Orgasm by NARS:

This color is such a favorite of mine. I love it anytime, but during the summer it really works for an amazing peachy glow.  I absolutely love it with golden and bronzed eyes.

Pants:

 NARS Illuminator in Orgasm:

Sometimes when you’re going to be out in the heat, powder blush may not be the best option. This NARS Illuminator will you give a hint of color and glow and has a better staying power than powders.

Posietint by Benefit:

This is another great product for when you’re gonna be out in this redonk 90-degree weather. This bright pink cheek stain is so pretty and super easy to use. Just apply a small amount to your cheeks and blend it out! I tried this in a three-piece set from Sephora that also includes a mini High Beam and Benetint. (I wanna try ChaChaTint, the coral version!)

What are your favorite summer blushes?

Summer Shades

19 Jul

You may notice that during the summer you keep reaching for certain shades.  Some colors just seem much more summer appropriate than others. Here are some of our summer favorites.

Red:

Woodwinked by MAC:

Woodwinked is one of my favorite MAC shades ever. EVER. It is a nice warm gold with brown tinges to it. It’s a great shadow to sweep on the lid and go. I love wearing this one in the summer.

Bronze by MAC:

The name of this shadow, Bronze, describes it perfectly. I love pairing this color with a bright gold shadow, like the one mentioned below. Of course pairing it with gold, makes it an amazing summer combination.

Half Baked by Urban Decay:

I love wearing gold shades in the summer. Gold just screams summer to me. Half Baked is one of my favorite colors. It’s easy to make it look like a light sweep of gold or a very intense gold. This shade blends nicely, and pairs easily with other colors.

Pants:

Sin by Urban Decay:

I like light shimmery colors all over the lid during the summer months. This is definitely a perfect example of that. And it’s also great to use from lid to brow with a matte light gray or medium brown in the crease to dress it up in case you want to party and party and pa-and-pa-and-party.

Erotica and Silk Teddy by Too Faced:

It’s no secret that I love me some Too Faced palettes. Unfortunately, none of these colors are sold as singles, and only a few come as duos. Silk Teddy is a super shimmery peach that works well with browns or greens or purples or whatever fun color you want to line your eyes with. This is so shimmery that I like to pair it with a matte color in the crease or under my brows, or just alone with a bit of liner.

What colors are you wearing a lot this summer?
