Tried It Tuesday – Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow

13 Mar

This week’s Tried It Tuesday is brought to you by Pants.

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow ($5.84, – I first spotted these right before Christmas. Red and I were both in Charleston visiting our families, and we snuck away to Target because it was open until midnight. I saw the Maybelline Color Tattoo and had to have the Tenacious Teal because my favorite color is teal/turquoise. Well, this really is an electric blue more than teal.

I got this to wear as a cream bright liner. Well, it didn’t work out as well as I wanted it to for lining purposes. To be fair, I really only used it like that once. I haven’t worn it as a shadow yet because I typically avoid bright blue shadows because they make my blue eyes look gray.

When I wore it as a liner, it stayed all day with no problems.

Tenacious Teal has some glitter in it too, which is fun. I ended up buying Tough as Taupe a few weeks ago, because I’m a sucker. I kept seeing everyone talk about this color on YouTube, and I had to have it. I’m a big fan of gray shadows, and decided it was a necessity. Tough as Taupe is matte.

I have worn Tough as Taupe several times, both as a base and alone. I like to wear it with black eyeliner and a darker color in my crease, because I feel my eyes look sloppy if I don’t. Kinda like I just swiped it on as I was running out the door or slept in it.

Tough as Taupe wore really well too, with no problems. When I wear it as a base, I also use Urban Decay’s Primer Potion under it. I never noticed any creasing.

I do like these, and I think they wear well, but I’m just not excited about them. I get excited when I see a tutorial using them, but I’m not reaching for them much on my own.

I give the Maybelline Color Tattoos 4 out of 5 sparkles.

Lisa Eldridge – Green Smoke Glamourous Party Eyes:

Pixiwoo – Olive/Gold Eyeshadow tutorial:

And remember – you don’t have to go ALL OUT like a crazy person and be covered in green. Wear some neutral shadows and add a pop of color with some green liner under the bottom lashes. Or maybe paint your accents nails green, and do the rest in an another color. We’re just looking out for you so you won’t be pinched!

It’s not easy bein’ green

8 Mar

St. Patty’s day is coming up and we already have our green makeup picked out. We hope you do too. In case you don’t, here are our picks for some green fun.

Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in #84 Epatant ($36,

Just in case bright shadows aren’t your thing, this is an amazing greenish taupe shade. You can sparkle and shimmer all day and/or night.

Urban Decay Glide on Eye Pencil in Graffiti ($19,

You can have some real fun with a bright green eye pencil. This particular one has great pigmentation.

Lancome Color Fever Gloss – Green Petal ($26,

This gloss may look scary, but it doesn’t look green on your lips. It just adds some pretty green glitter than you can wear alone or on top of another lip product.

Already have some green makeup, but don’t know how to wear it? No worries! Here are some tutorials:

A bright look: Sour Skittles by xsparkage

A standard look: Lucky Green by MakeupByTiffanyD

A smokey/glittery look:  Smokey Glittery Green Tutorial by AlbaMayo

A dramatic look: Anything Goes Liquid Liner by Lisa Eldridge

How much green do you plan on sporting for St. Patty’s Day?

Pants’ Plum Picks!

7 Mar

Pants here. Lately, I’ve been really loving plum lip colors. I feel it’s a good transition color from winter to spring. I think they’re really flattering for pale ladies, such as Red and myself. Today, I’ll share my favorites that I’ve accumulated over the last few months.

Sephora Rouge Cream Lipstick in Crush 23 ($12, – This is described as a deep reddish plum. I have to be very careful when applying this because it is on the darker side. I usually use a lip brush, then apply some extra foundation or concealer around my lips to make it look cleaner. My skin is kinda pinky, so if you have red/pink areas on your face, a deep color like this will make them stand out. The lipstick looks much darker than it is when applied.

Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Apocalypse ($19, – Saw this color swatched on several blogs and really loved how it looked on everyone who wore it. When I finally got to Sephora I swatched it on my hand and kept staring at it. I knew I must own it. It’s a deep plum, but I typically use the Lisa Eldridge method of dabbing it on with my fingers, then rubbing it in like a stain. It looks matte this way, but does look glossy when applied normally.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey ($15, – This is considered a cult favorite, and now I know why. Love this. LOVE it. It’s moisturizing and gives just a slight hint of plum on the lips. It looks really nice over top of the other colors I’ve mentioned above, too. Since it’s sheer, it works with your natural lip color. It’s a good introduction to a plum lip.

Revlon Just Bitten in Crave ($6.74, – I’ve been addicted to lipstains lately. You can get two completely different looks with them – matte when applied alone or shiny with gloss on top. Actually, depending on what color of gloss you use, you can get several different looks – shimmery, glittery, a hint of color to depend or lighten it. I just recently picked this one up, and already love it. It’s more of a bright plum than a deep one. Plus, it has a lip balm on the end so you only have to carry one product with you for touch-ups.

Dark lip colors like this can really make you look a little goth if you don’t wear enough blush. Lisa Eldridge suggests applying some blush, and then retouching after you apply your lip color. And we always do what Lisa says – she’s a makeup genius.

What plum lip products are you loving?

Tried It Tuesday – Chanel Vitalumière Aqua

6 Mar

About a month ago, we took a trip up to Pittsburgh for a makeup adventure. We both ended up leaving with this Chanel foundation. Today, we’re going to tell you what we think about it.

Chanel Vitalumière Aqua ($45,

Red – I had been on the look out for an extremely hydrating foundation. I have dry skin and my skin loves any extra moisture it can get. I started hearing lovely things about this foundation and immediately set out to buy it.

I have been wearing this every day since I bought it. I like to apply it with a beauty blender. I have been wearing a hydrating foundation primer with this as well. I LOVE this stuff. It goes on so smoothly and you can’t even tell that you are wearing anything. It blends into the skin flawlessly. I seriously think since wearing this my skin has looked the best it has looked in a really really long time. I haven’t had any problem with dry flakes or break outs. I think I have finally found my holy grail of foundation.

I give Chanel Vitalumière Aqua 5 out of 5 sparkles.

Pants – Red told me about this foundation and started sending me video reviews. Like I’ve said 800 times, I’m trying to find a replacement for my beloved discontinued Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinte. Since this foundation also has SPF 15 in it, and is water-based, I thought it might be the perfect replacement.

Well, I’ve been having skin issues. I have combination skin, but it’s always leaned more on the oily side in my T-zone. Well with this foundation, (and to be fair, every other foundation I’ve tried lately) I’ve been looking like a powdery/flakey mess. I’ve had some dry patches on my forehead and on my cheeks.

I stopped using a setting powder on top. I switched moisturizers. I’ve worn a primer. I’ve used a setting spray. I’ve exfoliated. Each of these things have helped slightly, but I still look a little flakey/powdery. I’ve been applying the foundation with a Beauty Blender, but I’m thinking about switching to a foundation brush tomorrow to see if that changes things.

I do like how this foundation looks on me, but the flakiness has got to stop. I’m hoping my skin stops being so weird in the next few weeks as it starts to warm up.

I give Chanel Vitalumière Aqua 4 out of 5 sparkles.

Tell us, have you tried out any new foundations recently?
