POLL – What would you like to see on Glimmer & Shimmer?

29 Apr

We’ve had quite an increase in readers this week, thanks to our super duper fantabulous eos Limited Edition Lip Balm giveaway!!! We hope that everyone who has just joined us this week sticks around, so this week’s poll is asking what you’d like to see from us. We have a YouTube channel, but we’ve been neglecting it lately due to being busy/lazy/cold. Wanna see us do some hauls?! Reviews?! Want to see Mr. Red make a big ‘ol mess of Red’s face!? (Pants is anal retentive and won’t let her dood touch her precious makeups, so you’re not getting one from her.)

If we left anything out, please feel free to fill in your own answer, or leave a comment!

April MVPs

28 Apr

It’s time again for our favies from this month! Where on earth has April gone? It was just March yesterday, right?

Red:

Too Faced Enchanted Glamourland Palette – The reason why I think I turned to this so much this month is that it’s chock full of pretty pastels. I have been in love with Boy Toy which is a gorgeous pink shade. A purpley taupe color called Glamazon has been making the rounds as well.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils in Milk and Iced Mocha – I am absolutely in love with these eye pencils. I love to use Milk as a highlight right under the eyebrow and in the inner corner of my eye. I’ve been using Iced Mocha as a base to layer other shadows on top.  I have several different colors in these pencils, but these two colors are what I reached for most.

NYX Doll Eye Mascara – I bought this mascara off of HauteLook not too long ago. For this month, it’s all I’ve wanted to use on my lashes. It gives you incredibly long, full looking lashes. I just love this mascara!

Essie Nail Polish in Chinchilly and Aruba Blue– I have absolutely been loving Essie Nail Polishes lately. They last a very long time with minimal chipping. I’ve been sporting Chinchilly, a gorgeous grey color, on my nails. Every time I go to polish my nails it’s the color I reach for.  I’ve been sporting Aruba Blue on my toes a lot. It’s a very pretty deep blue.

Pants:

MAC Quite Cute Mineralize Blush in Sakura – I’ve been wanting a purple-hued blush, and couldn’t pass this one up. I love how bright it is, and I don’t have to use much at all to get some color. When applied, it doesn’t look purple, maybe because the magenta heart tones that down. Definitely a fun blush for ghostly pale girls.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils in Cottage CheeseThis is a shimmery/pearly white pencil that I wanted in order to use for highlighting under the brows and in the inner corner of the eye. I thought it might stay better than a light shadow, but I think it works well as a base for a shadow highlight too.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Candlelight – I bought this to try after I ran out of my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin. I planned to repurchase Sin, but Sephora didn’t have the tubes in store yet. Because I wanted a tube, I decided to finally give the Shadow Insurance a try. I think it keeps my eyeshadow looking freshly applied all day, and I haven’t experienced any creasing. However, I like the color of this more swatched on my hand than actually on my eyes. It looks like a shimmery gold on my hand, but looks like a weird yellow on my eyes. Since I do like the formula, I may try to original Shadow Insurance next.

Too Faced Natural Eye Palette  – If you have trouble getting up in the morning and sometimes run late, this is a great palette to have – you have three looks laid out, all in a row, in one handy place. Even when I have plenty of time to get ready, I still reach for this set. I love the colors and the looks I can get from mixing and matching them.

MAC Mineralize SkinFinish Natural in Light/Medium – I got this last month on Makeup Sunday when I was color matched at a MAC counter. I’m still wearing my tinted moisturizer most days, and then top it off with this. I like that this powder makes my face look a little more even, and less shiny. Not a fan of those photos where my entire face is shining like I rubbed bacon all over it.

Poll Results – What’s your spring blush color of choice?

25 Apr

We asked Friday what color blush our readers prefer to wear in the spring, and peach came in first place with 60%, followed by pink with 20% and no blush with 20%.

No one chose plum, and that’s probably because we meant to say lavender instead of plum. Whoops!

Here are our favorite blushes for spring!

Pants:

I’ve been loving my MAC Mineralize Blush in Sakura from the Quite Cute collection. I read a review of this blush and thought it was going to be so sheer, so I may have went a little crazy the first time I wore it. But it shows up really bright on me. Keep in mind that I’m white as a ghost. I love how this color looks on – it’s a bright, but still light, pinky-purple.

I realize this looks pink in the photo, but it’s definitely a light purple.

My other favorite blush includes all of the above colors! Sugarbomb by Benefit has four colors (peach, soft plum, shimmering pink and coral powders) that you blend together for a very natural flushed look.

Red:

My all time favorite blush is NARS Blush in Orgasm. It is the most amazing peach AND has the perfect amount of shimmer! This is my go to blush and I use it ALL the time.  I try other peachy colors, but I keep going back.

Keep checking back this week because we’ve got a give away coming up soon!

POLL – What’s your spring blush color of choice?

22 Apr

It’s getting warmer, sunnier and some of us have even had our first sunburn of the year! That means rosier cheeks, too. So we wanna know what color blush you prefer to wear in the spring or if you go natural?

PS – Happy Earth Day AND Happy National Makeover Day!

Kate Middleton

21 Apr

What’s that, there’s a Royal Wedding coming up soon? Oh, we had no idea. It’s not like we’ve read every article we can find on it, as well as looking at all the different memorbilia, such as the Will and Kate Pez dispensers.

OK, you caught us, we’re liars. We know all about the Royal Wedding and hope to watch it.

Kate Middleton almost reminds us of a brunette/British Lauren Conrad. And we’re totally OK with that.

We love her style – her clothes, her shoes, her hats and fascinators (that fun feather thing she’s wearing in the photo above)! And of course, we love her makeup. She even did her own makeup for her engagement photos!

Kate typically wears dark eyeliner on her upper and lower lids, and keeps neutral colors on the cheeks and lips. But that’s her every day look – what should she do for her big day?

Statement Lip:

We are thinking we should venture away from her norm on the big day. A bright red lip, neutral eyes, black winged eye liner, and pink cheeks would look amazing on her.

MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo:

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack:

Neutral Eye Shadows – MAC Naked Lunch and Soft Brown:

NARS Blush in Deep Throat:

Tell us what look you think Kate should go for on her wedding day.

Sulfate-free Shampoos

21 Apr

Today during some feather extension repairs, we were talking about shampoo. Apparently, a lot of shampoos have wax in them that leaves residue that weighs down your hair. Most shampoos also have “sodium lauryl sulfate,” which is typically the agent that makes shampoo foamy. It’s a cheap detergent and can be damaging to hair, which is why many hair stylists suggest sulfate-free shampoos.

We both have been looking into the sulfate-free haircare products recently. Here’s what we’re trying out:

Red:

L’Oreal Ever Pure Sulfate-Free Color Care System – The Moisture Shampoo is Rosemary Juniper and the Moisture Conditioner is Rosemary Mint. They both smell Ah-Mazing and they go nicely together. I started using the Color Care System at the recommendation of my hair stylist. She said that my highlights would last a lot longer with the sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. I immediately left the salon and headed straight for Target to find this shampoo and I haven’t turned back since. The shampoo and conditioner never leaves my hair feeling dirty or heavy. It is always left looking super shiny and smelling lovely. Also, my highlights have indeed lasted longer with this shampoo and conditioner.

Pants:

Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo – I found this one evening while browsing the shampoo aisle at Walmart. I’m almost out of my current shampoo, and wanted to change things up. I typically pick a shampoo based on smell, and when I saw coconut, I was pumped! If there’s an option to get anything coconut scented or flavored, that’s what I’ll choose. The fact that it was sulfate-free was a bonus. After buying this, I decided to read some reviews, which were very mixed. Some people said it really dried out their hair, and then I read something about how the ingredients aren’t organic at all and there’s something in it that causes cancer – but really, what doesn’t cause cancer? I’ve only used this a couple times so far, mostly because apparently not everyone loves coconut as much as I do and I don’t want my boyfriend to throw up on me if he smells my hair. I’ll do an update on this once I use it some more.

Tell us what shampoo do you love to use?
