Poll results – What hair tool can you not live without?

31 Jan

Our readers heart their hair dryers, according to our Friday poll. Flat irons came in second, and curling irons came in third with zero votes.

We Glimmer and Shimmer ladies have recently fallen in love with a flat iron. Not only does it straighten Red’s wavy hair with ease, but it curls the CRAP out of our hair. Yes, that’s right, the flat iron curls our hair!

Pants has always had issues with curling her hair – typically when she uses a curling iron, she ends up with her hair flipped out on the ends, with no curl. However, once Red curled her hair for her, she fell in love and never wanted to have straight hair again.

Once we actually got the hang of it, we think it’s easier to curl our hair with the flat iron than with a curling iron. There are several great videos on YouTube that show you how to do it:

(skip to the 2:20 mark to see her start curling)

When searching for a flat iron that can curl your hair, make sure the edges are rounded or “beveled.” If the edges are square or 90 degree angles, you’ll end up with crimps and lines.

We both have the Paul Mitchell Express Ion Smooth 1.25 in Flat Iron holiday set, that came with a super duper thermal case and a brush.

This flat iron is definitely G&S approved.

Hair and makeups go together like peanut butter and jelly. When we get primped to go out, we have to make time to do both. And of course, we have our favorites.

So we want to know what item you can’t live without.

Give Us Glitter, or Give Us Death

26 Jan

We love us some glitter, obvi. So much so, that we’ve decided to dedicate today’s post to all things glitter that we’ve been wanting lately.

L’Oreal Double Extend Eye Illuminator Mascara:

The top part of the mascara is black with a hint of color. The bottom section is an illuminating top coat “infused with light reflecting pearls.” From left to right: Black Copper for blue eyes, Black Bronze for green eyes, Black Quartz for brown eyes and Black Crystal for all eyes. We haven’t spotted this in stores yet, but we’ll have our eyes out for it. Continue reading

Every February You’ll Be My Valentine

25 Jan

That time of year where everyone turns all sappy and lovey dovey is upon you.  Please refrain from slapping someone, because it’s also the time of year where you can wear some really cute makeups!

Whether you have a significant other or you are going out with some pals, there are so much fun makeups out right now. Here are our picks:

Bobbi Brown Powerful Palette: This palette is the perfect combination of purpley pinky tones.  Which of course would look just perfect on Valentine’s Day.

Too Faced Romantic Eye Classic Beauty Shadow Collection: Too Faced keeps coming out with these amazing little pallets. This palette has colors that definitely live up to it’s name and would let you create many a romantic look. Wink wink!

Too Faced Look of Love set: We’ve got a sfot spot for in our hearts for Too Faced lately. This fun kits comes with a mascara, Look of Love trio, Glamour Gloss in Barely Legal, Shadow Insurance, Primed and Poreless, a mini “Flatbuki” brush and a flowery zip pouch.

China Glaze Nail Polish in Ruby Pumps: This polish looks exactly as it name suggests. It sparkles and shimmers like the oh so famous ruby slippers.  So much so, that Red’s husband even commented that her nails looked like ruby slippers while wearing this polish.  This color is absolutely perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips: If red isn’t your color, Sally Hansen has fun strips that range from day-glow, glitter, to fun fun patterns. They are super easy to use, and last for days! Red is currently wearing Misbehaved, a fishnet looking pattern, and plans on wearing Laced Up for Valentine’s Day.

Stila Make Me Blush Set: We admit it – we’re suckers for Valentine’s Day decorations because of the pink and red hearts on everything. Now we can even have blush that matches our Valentine’s cards! Blush and lipgloss are both a must-have for V-day to give you that sweet, romantic glow.

What are your Valentine’s Day makeup picks?

Poll Results – Who do you think needs a makeup intervention?

24 Jan

The celebrity our readers voted most in need of a makeup intervention is…

Taylor Momsen!

We love us some black eyeliner, but she looks like balls. And we know she can be cute. For example:

See, she’s still wearing black eyeliner, but she looks cute! And did she draw a fake mole on herself in the first picture?

POLL – Who do you think needs a makeup intervention?

21 Jan

This week we’ve started a new feature where we discuss stars who are in a makeup rut. Don’t get us wrong, finding the right look for you is great, but you gotta change things up sometimes. Yeah, baby blue eyeshadow was great in the ’80s, but not so much now. You can still rock some blue eyeshadow, but not the same way as Lisa Turtle on “Saved by the Bell.”

We want to know who you think needs a makeup intervention.

Taylor Momsen – Taylor, Taylor, Taylor… You’re such a pretty girl and so cute with natural makeup. PLEASE put down the black eyeliner. You don’t need to stop cold turkey, but you don’t have to use an entire pencil each day on your eyes.

Vera Wang – We’ve complained about her before… Please, please, please if you’re going to sell makeup, wear it!

Helena Bonham Carter – Oh, sweetie, you look homeless. You’re so cute. We just want you to be cute!

Alexa and Olivia from “Jerseylicious” – These girls are professional makeup artists, and we wouldn’t let them within 10 feet of us with a makeup brush!

Chloe Sevigny – Her lips are a little bit blah for red lipstick, and she definitely needs to go heavier on eye makeup with her light lashes.
