Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

1 Jul

Pants here again. In my last post I talked about what makeup I would buy if my cosmetics bag had been misplaced for a few days. Today, I’m going to talk about something even scarier – what if ALL my makeup was gone FOREVER (ever… ever… ever…)?

Let’s make this a little less upsetting – ONLY my makeup is gone. Everything else is fine. My cat scratched the crap out of the person who stole all my makeup, so they didn’t come back for anything else. And they bled all over their vehicle. And the scratches got infected. And they’ll probably lose at least one leg. And they have terrible acne that even my makeup couldn’t hide. HASHTAG KARMA.

After crying (and probably vomiting), I would have to decide what would really need to be replaced. Because let’s be honest, we might love all of our makeup, but we don’t necessarily use all of it. I’m a sucker for green/turquoise/teal eye shadows, but those aren’t something that I wear everyday.

So if all of my makeup went missing for good, here are the products I would absolutely have to repurchase:

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

(Clockwise from left: Maybelline Dream Lumi Concealer, Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-hour Primer,
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder)

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen (light) / $34 @
Years ago I used a tinted moisturizer and loved it. Then I tried 800 products, and each time I would love it for a month, then was over it.  I wanted glowy, natural looking skin, like I wasn’t wearing anything. I went to Sephora and tested all the tinted moisturizers and BB creams from my favorite brands. After talking to a sales girl, she suggested the one that was actually my top runner – the Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF Sunscreen. There’s a lot of words in there, and the two that threw me off were “primer” and “sunscreen.” I wasn’t sure it could be worn by itself, but the associate told me that it could and that she really loved it. It goes on smooth, and has a silky/silicone-like feeling of a primer, but it’s tinted and evens out my skintone. Plus, the sunscreen is great – I went to the West Side Wiener Dog Races last weekend and while my shoulders burned like nobody’s business, my face was fine.

Maybelline Dream Lumi concealer (Radient) / $6.44 @
Great for brightening under/around my eyes, and the price isn’t too shabby.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder (Translucent) / $3.97 @
I honestly can’t tell a difference between this and the MAC Mineral Skin Finish Natural that I’ve been using for the last two years. The packaging isn’t as nice, but who cares?

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

N.Y.C. Smooth Skin Face Powder Sunny bronzer / $2.99 @
This has good color payoff, I don’t need to use much on my translucent skin AND it’s like $2-3 in most drug stores.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush (Tipsy) / $26 @
This is probably my favorite blush. It’s bright coral, which makes me happy. Sometimes I forget about it, but whenever I use it again I get mad at myself for not using it more.

Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Highlighter (Rose Illumination) / $34 @
So glad that rose gold is finally popular again. When I was in 7th grade, it was big. My mom ordered me a rose gold chevron ring from QVC, and I still have it. For years I’ve been waiting for it to get popular again, so I’m pumped to be able to get so many things in this beautiful color. When I heard that Elizabeth Arden was coming out with the Rose Aurora collection, I had to refrain from buying all of it. I settled on the highlighter, and it is definitely my favorite. (My gloomy day pictures don’t do it justice, so visit Fleur De Force’s blog for a swatch.)

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (Original) / $12 @
I loved this product since I first tried it five years ago. My shadows don’t crease and they look vibrant and freshly applied all day. I would go for the travel tube because you don’t have to use much and it lasts forever.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo (Medium Brown) / $23 @
It may seem pricey, but the one I’m using now I’ve had for around two years, and it’s still going strong (that’s a new one in the photo that I STILL haven’t had to use yet). I like powder because it looks more natural and because you get so much more product than in a pencil.

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

LORAC Mint Edition Palette  (Ulta version) / $36 @
This was a difficult decision. I have a lot of palettes and I like to switch between them every day. I decided to go with the LORAC Mint Edition because it’s what I’ve been using the most lately, and I think it has a good mixture of colors so that I can wear different looks. Plus, it’s limited edition and luckily still available. It has matte colors and really nice shimmery colors, too. BONUS – It comes with a coral lipgloss, gorgeous coral-peach blush AND a makeup bag.

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof eye liner (Lionfish) / $20 @
All-time favorite eyeliner. This bronzy color really makes blue eyes look more blue. It works with pretty much any shadow color. (Except oranges or corals – I feel they look a little too Halloweeny/fall-like for this time or year.)

Buxom Lash Mascara (Blackest Black) / $19 @
I haven’t bought mascara in months because I probably have eight years worth of free samples that I’ve been trying to go through. However, if they were all gone, this is the one I’d buy – lots of volume, doesn’t clump and no flaking.

TOTAL: $217.40

Okay, that’s nauseating. I actually feel physically ill thinking about having to replace all of those things at the same time.  So don’t steal my makeup, jerks.

According to my last post, it would have cost me $50.77 to replace all of my makeup using drugstore products that I like, leaving out tools or brushes, which I didn’t even get into here.

Whew! Do you know what you’d replace if you lost all of your makeup?

February 2012 Favoritessss

1 Mar

With February out of the way, we’re one step closer to Spring, thank goodness! No mo’ snow! And hopefully no more dry skin!

Here are the products we just couldn’t put down in February:

Urban Decay Naked2 ($50, – I know many people weren’t impressed with this palette, but I’ve been using it almost everyday. I think I’ve used it more than I ever used the original Naked. My favorite color combos are Bootycall on the brow bone, Tease in the crease, and either Suspect, Pistol or YDK on the lid. Busted is a great outer V color. If you don’t have the Naked2, this is just mumbo jumbo. Let’s just say, I’m really, really happy that I got this palette for Christmas.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Tipsy ($24, – I think this may have been my favorite last month, too. I have loved coral and peach colors since I was little, and it makes me super happy to have some bright coral on my cheeks. This blush is matte, and I love to add a little bit of shimmer on my cheek bones.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstain in Cranberry Crush ($2.49, – Of course this is discontinued, because I LOVE it. This is a bright cranberry red, which leans more on the red side than purple. It lasts a really long time (like I wake up the next morning and it’s still on), and looks good solo or with gloss on top. Sometimes I like to pair red, glittery glosses on top, but clear gloss looks great, as well. I could see it being a nice all-year-round red lip color. I may actually have to stock up on this.

Chanel Joues Contraste Blush in #55 In Love ($43, – I actually picked this blush up from All Cosmetics Wholesale for a little more affordable price. This is a blush that was recommended by Lauren Conrad and is why I now own it. It’s a coral-peach with golden shimmer. The shimmer is super light. It’s such a gorgeous color. I love the flush it gives my cheeks and I cannot put it down.

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Birthday Suit ($19, – This is an amazing shimmery brushed chrome cream shadow. I absolutely love it. I’ve been pairing it with MAC’s Sable, a plum/brown shade, and love the combination.

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Creme Brule ($7, – I have been going with a light nude lip  as of late. I love this light shimmery shade. It pairs well with almost any eye look.

Tell us, what have you been loving this month?

January 2012 Favies

1 Feb

It’s our first favorites post of the new year! Whooo! Whoooo! Whoooooooooooooooooooooo! I hope you’re sitting down, cause this is gonna be mind blowing. Or not. Just sit down so you don’t drop your phone or laptop, or strain your back. We care about our readers.

Boots No7 Line and Define Lip Liner in 20 Nude ($7, – I mentioned this amazing amazing lip pencil in yesterday’s Tried It Tuesday post. I have used this lip pencil most of the month with just a little bit of lip balm over. It’s been absolutely great and I have just loved how it looks.

NARS blush in Desire ($28, – I have this color blush in the Danmari All About Cheeks Palette. I’ve been loving it to help liven some things up this winter. I love the glow that it gives my cheeks.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Tipsy ($25, I feel like I’ve been talking about this blush non-stop lately. I wore it a lot during the summer, and put it to the side when it started getting colder. Then in January, I just couldn’t take it any more. I needed some bright colors to remind me of spring. This coral blush is perfect for that. It makes me happy to see it on my cheeks.

Inglot eyeshadow in Pearl 407 ($5, I’ve been loving my Inglot shadows all month, but this color especially. They are so pigmented and easy to blend. Honestly, if there was an Inlgot store nearby, I would probably only buy their single shadows. You can’t beat $5 for such a great product. I like to wear this color with either brown liner, or with a light purple in the crease. I guess it’s another color that makes me think of spring so I’ll forget how gloomy it’s been. (Although Tuesday was AMAZING! 64 degrees and sunshine in January? I’ll take it!)

What were your January favorites?

Poll Results – What colors do you wear to stay peppy in the winter?

23 Jan

According to our poll, it looks like 50% of our readers wear reds, while 50% wear bright pinks to stay peppy in the winter.

When winter started, Pants was wearing a lot of cranberry eyeshadows and blush. But as the cold and gloomy weather keeps going on and on and on, she’s gone back to coral and bright pink blushes to brighten things up. Pants’ favorite product lately to brighten up her look is Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush in Tipsy ($25, Is it spring yet?

Red’s has been punching the winter blues up a bit with a brighter lip. She has been loving Benefit’s Ultra Shine Lip Shine in Spiked Punch ($18,

Tangerine Dreams

19 Jan

If you stopped by here yesterday, you probably noticed that we blacked out the blog to join many others to protest SOPA. There may still be a “stop censorship” banner at the top right corner, so if you’re not sure what it’s about, check it out.

Back back to beauty – Pantone’s color of the year for 2012 is tangerine tango, and we’re pretty pumped about it. Tangerine makeup may sound scary, but it’s really not. Here are some of our picks to help you wear the tangerine trend:

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy ($25,

Tipsy is definitely a G&S favorite. We both own this blush and love, love, love it. It’s described as coral, and leans a little more to the tangerine side than the pink side. It’s a great cheek color for the spring and summer, but we’ve found it’s been brightening our days when the winter gloom is starting to get to us.

Inglot Pearl 407 ($5,

We both also own this color and it was pretty much an instant favorite. It’s a golden peach, but definitely is in the tangerine family.

Stila Lip Glaze in Apricot ($22,

Apricot is described as a melon nectarine shade. It will be lovely as a light wash of color over the lips.

Essie Mango Bango ($8,

This is the perfect shade to help sport a tangerine dream look. Red wore this one a lot last summer and absolutely loved it.

Tell us, do you have any products that would be perfect  for a Tangerine Dream look?

Tried It Tuesday – Mascara edition

17 Jan

For this edition of Tried It Tuesday, we’re both going to talk about some new mascaras we’ve been trying.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes ($19,

I got a mini version of this mascara with a Tarte holiday set. Tarte describes it as a “push-up bra for your lashes,” and that it curls, lengthens, adds volume and conditions lashes. Well, I don’t know if it curls, but it does hold the curl pretty well after I use my lash curler. It adds some volume and length. What’s weird is that I can tell it adds length on my shorter lashes closer to the inner corner/center of my eye, but it doesn’t look like it adds much length to my outer lashes. It does add volume, but it clumps my lashes a little more than I like – not that it’s super clumpy, just slightly. While it works fine, I don’t really think it’s worth the $19 price tag.

I give Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara 3 out of 5 sparkles.

L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes ($8.99,

I have been wanting to try a fiber mascara for quite sometime. I had a coupon and decided to try  this mascara out. Yay coupons! The brush is pretty amazing and the mascara is very buildable. I love how this mascara looks on my lashes. It really defines and makes them look very full. My only qualms with this mascara is with the actual fibers. I don’t think there has been a time where I haven’t got one of the fibers in my eyes. I like it so much I still use it.

I give L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Mascara 2 out of  5 sparkles.

Tell us, have there been any mascaras you have tried recently?

Best of 2011 – Face Products

4 Jan

We decided to pick out our favorite products we used in 2011. Instead of having one crazy long post with a ba-jillion items, we decided to cut it down by category so that we can maybe focus a little more on our super duper favies.

Keep in mind, these products weren’t necessarily released in 2011 – they were products we used in 2011 and we loved.

Today we’re going to talk about products we use on our face, including makeup, cleansers and moisturizers.

(Pants’ favorites. Keep reading to find out what they are!)

Tinted Moisturizer

Powder (pressed or loose)

Highlighter (for cheeks)

  • Red – Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy – This is the perfect coral shade. It doesn’t have any shimmer in it and it gives your cheeks the most amazing punch of color.
  • PantsBenefit Sugarbomb – I love the natural color of this with the hint of shimmer. I find myself going back to this blush again and again, especially if I’m short on time because it’s like a blush and highlight in one step.

Skin Care

Face Wash

Makeup Remover
