Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

1 Jul

Pants here again. In my last post I talked about what makeup I would buy if my cosmetics bag had been misplaced for a few days. Today, I’m going to talk about something even scarier – what if ALL my makeup was gone FOREVER (ever… ever… ever…)?

Let’s make this a little less upsetting – ONLY my makeup is gone. Everything else is fine. My cat scratched the crap out of the person who stole all my makeup, so they didn’t come back for anything else. And they bled all over their vehicle. And the scratches got infected. And they’ll probably lose at least one leg. And they have terrible acne that even my makeup couldn’t hide. HASHTAG KARMA.

After crying (and probably vomiting), I would have to decide what would really need to be replaced. Because let’s be honest, we might love all of our makeup, but we don’t necessarily use all of it. I’m a sucker for green/turquoise/teal eye shadows, but those aren’t something that I wear everyday.

So if all of my makeup went missing for good, here are the products I would absolutely have to repurchase:

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

(Clockwise from left: Maybelline Dream Lumi Concealer, Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-hour Primer,
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder)

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen (light) / $34 @
Years ago I used a tinted moisturizer and loved it. Then I tried 800 products, and each time I would love it for a month, then was over it.  I wanted glowy, natural looking skin, like I wasn’t wearing anything. I went to Sephora and tested all the tinted moisturizers and BB creams from my favorite brands. After talking to a sales girl, she suggested the one that was actually my top runner – the Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF Sunscreen. There’s a lot of words in there, and the two that threw me off were “primer” and “sunscreen.” I wasn’t sure it could be worn by itself, but the associate told me that it could and that she really loved it. It goes on smooth, and has a silky/silicone-like feeling of a primer, but it’s tinted and evens out my skintone. Plus, the sunscreen is great – I went to the West Side Wiener Dog Races last weekend and while my shoulders burned like nobody’s business, my face was fine.

Maybelline Dream Lumi concealer (Radient) / $6.44 @
Great for brightening under/around my eyes, and the price isn’t too shabby.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder (Translucent) / $3.97 @
I honestly can’t tell a difference between this and the MAC Mineral Skin Finish Natural that I’ve been using for the last two years. The packaging isn’t as nice, but who cares?

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

N.Y.C. Smooth Skin Face Powder Sunny bronzer / $2.99 @
This has good color payoff, I don’t need to use much on my translucent skin AND it’s like $2-3 in most drug stores.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush (Tipsy) / $26 @
This is probably my favorite blush. It’s bright coral, which makes me happy. Sometimes I forget about it, but whenever I use it again I get mad at myself for not using it more.

Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Highlighter (Rose Illumination) / $34 @
So glad that rose gold is finally popular again. When I was in 7th grade, it was big. My mom ordered me a rose gold chevron ring from QVC, and I still have it. For years I’ve been waiting for it to get popular again, so I’m pumped to be able to get so many things in this beautiful color. When I heard that Elizabeth Arden was coming out with the Rose Aurora collection, I had to refrain from buying all of it. I settled on the highlighter, and it is definitely my favorite. (My gloomy day pictures don’t do it justice, so visit Fleur De Force’s blog for a swatch.)

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (Original) / $12 @
I loved this product since I first tried it five years ago. My shadows don’t crease and they look vibrant and freshly applied all day. I would go for the travel tube because you don’t have to use much and it lasts forever.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo (Medium Brown) / $23 @
It may seem pricey, but the one I’m using now I’ve had for around two years, and it’s still going strong (that’s a new one in the photo that I STILL haven’t had to use yet). I like powder because it looks more natural and because you get so much more product than in a pencil.

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

LORAC Mint Edition Palette  (Ulta version) / $36 @
This was a difficult decision. I have a lot of palettes and I like to switch between them every day. I decided to go with the LORAC Mint Edition because it’s what I’ve been using the most lately, and I think it has a good mixture of colors so that I can wear different looks. Plus, it’s limited edition and luckily still available. It has matte colors and really nice shimmery colors, too. BONUS – It comes with a coral lipgloss, gorgeous coral-peach blush AND a makeup bag.

Glimmer & Shimmer / Give me all the makeup and brushes you have

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof eye liner (Lionfish) / $20 @
All-time favorite eyeliner. This bronzy color really makes blue eyes look more blue. It works with pretty much any shadow color. (Except oranges or corals – I feel they look a little too Halloweeny/fall-like for this time or year.)

Buxom Lash Mascara (Blackest Black) / $19 @
I haven’t bought mascara in months because I probably have eight years worth of free samples that I’ve been trying to go through. However, if they were all gone, this is the one I’d buy – lots of volume, doesn’t clump and no flaking.

TOTAL: $217.40

Okay, that’s nauseating. I actually feel physically ill thinking about having to replace all of those things at the same time.  So don’t steal my makeup, jerks.

According to my last post, it would have cost me $50.77 to replace all of my makeup using drugstore products that I like, leaving out tools or brushes, which I didn’t even get into here.

Whew! Do you know what you’d replace if you lost all of your makeup?

September Favies

11 Oct

October has went and got all Speedracer up in here. It’s not allowed to go by so fast. We know it’s further in the month, but we still want to share our September favorites with you.

Essie’s Nail Polish in Lady Like ($8, – This polish is from Essie’s fall collection. It also happens to have been inspired by the amazing Kate Middleton. I have worn this for most of the month. I love love LOVE it and just cannot choose a different color.

Lorac’s San Tropez Palette ($14, – I picked up this adorable palette from Hautelook. I love the lace compact, but also love the amazing neutral colors. I have turned to this palette time and time again for so many pretty day looks. Unfortunately, it was available for a limited time only on Hautelook and does not seem to available anywhere else.

NP Set lipstick in Denver ($16, – I know I know I know. I’ve mentioned this lipstick a million times recently. I can’t help it though, it is too amazeballz. It’s the perfect creamy, shiny, nude shade and I use it every day. Every. Day. That’s why it’s a favorite. Seriously, you should check it out.

Pinkus ($free, local vet) – Someone likes to come in and nose around my makeup lately. She wanted to help me pick out my favorites for September.

Sigma 12-Brush Kit in Make Me Cool ($99, – I’ve been wanting these brushes since they came out right before Christmas last year. Somehow I held off on buying them, and the birthday fairy brought them to me last month. I LOVE these. They’re soft, and work so well. I love the variety of the eye brushes, and the case is great for travel – I don’t have to worry about crushing my large powder brush.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder ($30, – I have been wearing this highlighter everyday since I got it. It adds a nice hint of gold to my cheeks and lasts all day. I actually got mine as part of the Tarte Radiant & Rested: Volume II Universal Complexion & Color Collection, which is where I also got the…

Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Luster in Sweet ($42, exclusive to the Radiant & Rested kit at Sephora) – This lip color is a goldy pink, and has a great mint smell. It reminds me of Clinique’s Chubby Sticks. I’ve never tried any Tarte products until I got this kit and the Amazonian clay blush in Tipsy, and these definitely did not disappoint.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Tipsy ($25, – I bought this the same time as the Radiant & Rested kit. I had wanted to try these blushes, and I also wanted a coral blush. LOVE. THIS. BLUSH. It has great staying power, and it’s super pigmented. You have to use a light hand – I’m very pale and went a little overboard the first time I tried it. I want this blush in every color. I actually recently bought Exposed, the nude color, and have a feeling it’s going to be on my October favorites list.

What were your September favorites?

Poll results – What products do you typically “hit pan” on?

4 Apr

Friday we asked what products you typically hit pan on – eyeshadow and blush tied for first place, followed by lipstick in second, with setting powder and mascara in third.

We just realized that we left out foundation… That probably would have been a popular one. Our bad, guys! Our freakin’ bad.

Here are the items we’ve hit pan on:

I have a few favorite eyeshadows that I usually go to on mornings when I’m running late/in a hurry/can’t think long enough to decide what colors to wear. The first one pictured is Sparkle by Elizabeth Arden, my favorite highlight! I used to wear it every day, but I’ve been switching things up lately. The next one in the photo is Lucky Penny by Clinique, which is described as a muted bronze with a hint of pink. It’s a great sparkly neutral. The last eyeshadow is Underground by Urban Decay, a super shimmery medium brown. One day I decided I wanted a sparkly brown and I found this, which was exactly what I was looking for.

I’m also on the last few drops of my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin. I love having a sparkly base. I don’t even have to use a highlight with this, but I typically do. It keeps my shadows from creasing and looking like they’ve just been applied all day.

Of course I’ve “hit pan” on my tinted moisturizer (Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinte), I don’t know how many tubes of it I’ve used. Loves it.

I have a few go to items that are my favorites. Pictured above is Lorac’s Perfectly Lit Oil-Free Luminizing Powder, something I use every day. It has a hint of shimmer to it which can help you achieve a pretty dewy effect.

The next pictured item is the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer.  This is the best concealer that I have EVER used.  I can hide any blemish, dark circles, redness, anything with this stuff.  I will be ordering another one very soon.

The last item pictured is MAC Eye Shadow in Honey Lust.  I absolutely love this shimmery coppery shadow. It is fabulous and is easily worn alone or paired with other shadows. No worries I already have a full size pan waiting on me.

The following are several items not shown that I’ve “hit pan” recently and  have already replaced them.

Nars Blush in Orgasm: This is the perfect shimmery peachy blush color. I wear it all of the time. I have lost track of what number I’m on.

NYX Round Case Lipstick in Ceto: I just replaced this on the recent makeup extravaganza trip to Pittsburgh. This lipstick is absolutely amazing. It’s a gorgeous frosty pink shade. You can layer so many different lipglosses over it for the most amazing looks.

Tell us what items you’ve “hit pan” on recently.

January MVPs

3 Feb

We’re a few days late on this, but here are our MVPs for the month of January. These are the products we found ourselves picking up almost every day to use.

Benefit Blush in Sugarbomb –  I love this blush for an everyday look. It gives a natural flush, and had a matte finish. I like to pair it with Benefit’s High Beam or Urban Decay’s Urbanglow Cream Highlight for extra sparkle.

Stila Eye Shadow Trio in Bronze Glow – Red got me this eyeshadow for my birthday and it’s recently been my go-to shadow look. I use the medium shade on the lid, light shade as a highlight and then contour in the crease with the dark brown.

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Brown – I have Buxom’s Lashliner in black, and a wanted a brown version. Instead of paying $15 for Buxom’s, I decided to give Maybelline’s version a try. It works just as well, and I’m really happy with it. I was a little iffy about the brush that comes with it, but it works great! Definitely my current favorite eyeliner.

L’Oreal Double Extend Eye Illuminator  in Black Copper (for blue eyes) – Red told me about this mascara a couple weeks ago, and found it at Target. I possibly made a special trip there to get one, and I’m glad I did because I haven’t been able to find my color since. This mascara is amazing – it makes my lashes look sooooo long, doesn’t smudge and I love the hint of sparkle. I want to try it in Black Crystal too, but I’ve been unable to find that shade since I decided that I needed it.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk – I bought this pencil a while back and only used it a couple of times. Apparently this month, it’s been calling my name because I’ve been using it like crazy. I like to use it on my lid and layer a shiny light color over it. I also use it in the inner corner of my eye and under my brow for a highlight.

Lorac Baked Matte Satin Blush in Velvet Rope – I purchased this blush a while back to and have been using it almost every day. It gives my cheeks a nice rosy pop of color, especially during this drab time of winter.

L’Oreal Double Extend Eye Illuminator in Black Bronze (for green eyes) – Like Pants, this has been my go to mascara this month. I love the way this mascara looks on my lashes.  The hint of shimmer definitely livens things up a bit too.

Tell us, what are your January MVPs?

Adding glimmer and shimmer to the holidays

22 Dec
First off, don’t forget about our contest to win some free makeups! All you have to do is post a comment on this post – make sure to read the rules!

We always like to be sparkly, but we feel around the holidays we have an excuse to be extra sparkly. Here are some items that are helping us with that:

Nars Blush in Super Orgasm

I love the peachy color of this blush and I love love love the gold chunks of glitter. It’s definitely noticeable, but not overpowering.

I bought this color last year, and was surprised to see it in the holiday collection. While it is a black base, the chunks of glitter are coppery, green and gold with a hint of red. Definitely a fun dark holiday color.
Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush in Cupquake

I mostly love this because of it’s name, but it’s also a pretty pink, and glittery and smells like vanilla cupcakes. Win-win-win-win. (I couldn’t find this color online, but did buy it in the stores just last month.)

Bare Escentuals All Wrapped Up Eye Collection

A lovely friend of mine gave this to me for Christmas and I. Love. It. I’ve never had any experience with BE shadows, but the pigmentation is great, and these have a hint of “glimmer.”

OPI Nail Polish in Sparkle-Icious

I am in LOVE with this polish.  I love the name and of course I love the sparkle. I’ve only been wearing this polish for a short time and have already had so many compliments.

LORAC Multiplex 3-D Lipgloss in 3D

Pants being the awesome lady that she is gave me the Glitz & Glam Shimmer and Shine Deluxe Sampler for Christmas. With a name like that it’s everything shimmery and shiny. This lipgloss came in the sampler. It’s a rosy bronze color and is so shiny!

Benefit High Beam

I received a little sample of this recently and loved it so much that I purchased a full size bottle. I love using this as the highlighter on my cheeks. It gives me such awesome shimmer and it lasts all day long.

Don’t forget to tell us how you plan on glimmering and shimmering this holiday here so you can enter our GIVEAWAY!

Poll results – Holiday look tutorial color / Gift Guide for Cats

6 Dec

It was close this week, but the winner of the holiday look tutorial color poll was purple! Silver finished in second place, just one vote behind purple.

Red filmed the tutorial and will be editing it soon. It should be available sometime this week. We’ll be sure to let you know when it’s on our YouTube channel!

Now we’re going to share our go-to purples.

Red: One of my favorite purple eyeshadows is Lorac’s After Party. Its a super dark shimmery violet. It’s an in-your-face purple and that’s what I love about it.

Pants: My favorite purple eyeshadow is Camisole by Lancome. It’s a shimmery lilac that’s not overpowering. It’ll work for an everyday look or you can jazz it up for a dramatic smokey eye with a darker purple shadow in the crease and a dark purple or black liner.
