Learning by example – Halloween style

14 Oct

Some of us are visual learners and can learn better by example. If you can’t recreate a look just by looking at a photo, here are some Halloween costume ideas with instructions and videos.

Stila has three makeup sets to recreate the many looks of Gaga, ranging in price from $30 to $40. Each set includes full sized products to do either the lighting bolt look, the red hood look or the hair bow look. Each kit also comes with instructions AND there’s a “Get the look” video for each product on Stila’s website. The great thing about these sets is that they each contain products that can be used again and again, not just for Halloween. That’s the key to Halloween makeup – if you are going to splurge, do so on things you can use often. For things you’ll only be using once, get the inexpensive Wet ‘n Wild or Bon Bons versions.

Pants went as Gaga last year, and Red helped with the makeup.

That’s Pants’ poker face. Can’t read it, can ya?

We used a turquoise eyeliner to draw a lighting bolt on Pants’ face, then filled it in with eyeshadow of the same color. Pants used bright purple eyeshadows and lots of dark liner winged out. Pants also had on some bright fusicia lipstick because this was before Gaga had her own Mac color. Oh, if she had only waited another year…

You can pretty much go wild with any Gaga look and as long as you have the platium hair and look weird, you’re good.

Urban Outfitters has even got into the spirit with a few tutorials on how to be Carrie and Wednesday Adams, among other things.

If you want to really go all out, there are several tutorials on YouTube showing how to do makeup for the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty.” Makeup artist Kandee Johnson has a lot of great Halloween tutorials if you’re having a hard time coming up with an idea for a costume.

If Disney characters aren’t your thing, why not be Batman nemesis Posion Ivy?

Remember those Sephora Halloween kits we mentioned last week? Sephora now has videos to go along with each of those kits! Check out their YouTube channel for tips in case you want to use your own makeup to get the same looks.

Our favorite look? The peacock, of course! With the gorgeous, bright, fun colors, you could also use this makeup to be a fairy, cupcake or anything that’s colorful.
