Inspiration

29 Sep

Ever see someone with pretty makeup and wish you knew how to recreate that look? It’s not always easy to do it on your own, but luckily we’ve got all kinds of makeup artists and gurus on the Internet to teach us the tricks.

We wanted to share with you some of our favorites.

Makeup Artists

Carmindy – If you’ve ever watched “What Not To Wear,” you’ve seen Carmindy work her magic. Her signature is the five-minute face, a technique she  teaches women who say they don’t have time to put on makeup. She’ll add the essentials and show that just a little bit of makeup can make a big difference in just a short amount of time. Pants credits Carmindy with teaching her how to use an angled brush to line her eyes and the importance of a tinted moisturizer with an SPF.

Kandee JohnsonKandee is a fabulous makeup artists who loves to share the tricks of the trade.  She has a blog and  YouTube channels where she shows you how to recreate celebrity looks. Two of my favorite looks that she recreated are Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge from “The Hills.” Who wouldn’t want to look like those girls? Kandee also shows you how to fix broken makeup pots, take care of your hair and do fun nail polish looks. She just happens to be in this month’s Elle Magazine.

Bobbi BrownThis lady knows her stuff.  She is able to create such natural looks that can be achieved so quickly.  Her makeup is top-notch. The shades are always flattering and go on so smoothly.  Miss Bobbi has several books including a new one that addresses makeup from pre-teens through your twenties. Red many moons ago bought her book “Bobbi Brown Beauty” and now refers to it as the Bible. She goes through makeup looks and how to take care of your skin for all ages. It definitely is a must read.

Makeup Gurus

Emily EddingtonBeauty Broadcast

Emily is a morning news reporter and has a super popular YouTube channel, Beauty Broadcast. She is A.DOR.A.BLE. She has over 450 videos of her favorite products, tutorials and even a tour of her makeup room (which we mention all the time and are still super envious about!). Emily does a lot of reviews on drugstore brands, and loves her some Walgreens. She also has a blog, Twitter, Facebook page and a Daily Booth account where she posts her makeup looks most days. Along with giving her honest reviews, Emily will show you all kinds of fun things like how to apply fake lashes, recreate a celebrity’s makeup look and how to incorporate your college’s colors into your eye makeup for game day.

Elessa Purse Buzz

We discovered Elessa while searching for makeup organization videos (part 1 and part 2). We thought we had a lot of makeup until we watched these videos. She easily has more than both of us combined! Elessa does a lot of reviews with swatches and tutorials. Her website is a great source of information on all things makeup. There’s so much stuff on there, it would just be easier to check it out yourself!

Blair & Elle Fowler (juicystar07 & AllThatGlitters21)

The Fowler sisters both have super popular YouTube channels. What’s great is you get two different perspectives on looks because Elle is blonde and pale, while Blair has dark hair and a darker complexion. The girls do lots of hauls and makeup reviews, typically only focusing on products they like. Lately they’ve both been doing Halloween tutorials, like Barbie and Snooki.

Marlena (Makeup Geek)

Marlena, aka the Makeup Geek, has a truly amazing website. You can find tutorials that are divided into categories from beginner to more advanced. There are also haul videos, makeup reviews, swatches and even a store.  If you are looking for a celebrity look or perhaps a look to match your favorite candy or soda you can find them on her website.  Recently she did a gorgeous homecoming look which makes us both wish we had an event to attend.

Who are your makeup inspirations?
